Overview:

Imagine that it’s Christmas 1895. George Vanderbilt welcomes his family & friends for the first time of his new home, the Biltmore in Asheville, NC. Now, the Biltmore is not just an ordinary home or even lavish mansion, it is America’s largest private home with 175,000 square feet and 250 rooms. Inside, thousands of ornaments reflect the soft glow of candles, fireplaces, and twinkle lights. The Biltmore House is magical at Christmas – complete with 55 elaborate hand-decorated trees including the favorite 35ft. live fraser fir in the banquet hall, a thousand poinsettias, miles of garland, and live music. Throughout the estate, find 100+ decorated trees with 25,000+ ornaments, 1.5miles of fresh garlands, 500 wreaths and sprays, 2,000 poinsettias and other favorite holiday plants. Walk through America’s largest home, as magnificent today as it was more than a century ago, see displays of art, vintage clothing, furniture and priceless objects you see throughout the luxurious home that are from George and Edith Vanderbilt original collection that illustrate the lives of the Vanderbilt family.  Dinner at the Estate is also included.

Will also visit the Andy Griffith Museum which provides a permanent place for the world’s largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia. The Museum is located a half-mile from Andy’s boyhood home. It houses items collected by childhood friend Emmett Forrest. The museum includes iconic signs from the show’s courthouse doors that read: “Sheriff’ and Justice of Peace.” There are also mementos from Don Knott’s who played Barney Fife, actress Betty Lynn who plated Thelma Lou and George Lindsey who played Goober. While in Mount Airy, NC, we will also drive by Andy’s Griffith home place, a stop at the Courthouse, Wally’s Service Station and Snappy Diner. This and so much more on this fun getaway.
